ArcSpecLF

Measure and optimize your ladle furnace in real time

Real-time measurements from inside the furnace

The temperature and composition of the molten metal in a ladle furnace directly affect the quality of the final product. With Luxmet’s ArcSpecLF, you can monitor and control both in real-time, using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES).

Continuous temperature measurement helps achieve the optimal temperature for the liquid steel. Thus, the requirements for downstream processes, such as continuous casting, can be optimally achieved.

Real-time slag analysis is far more than a technical innovation. It is a strategic imperative that allows rapid decisions, enhanced product quality, increased efficiency, and reduced production costs.

Dynamic control of the ladle furnace process leads to

Versatile solution

Every campaign is tailored to the exact needs of the customer and the process

Robust equipment

The equipment is designed to excel in extreme process conditions

Real-time data

The continuous data and in-depth analysis allow for informed decision-making

Precise furnace monitoring with optical emission data

ArcSpec LF utilizes OES for process monitoring and control. It distinguishes various spectra within the furnace, including thermal radiation, alkali peaks, and atomic emissions. Continuous real-time measurements are taken from the furnace roof using a self-cleaning and durable measurement head. The data is processed at a safe distance from the furnace and transmitted to the process control system.

The product is designed for easy integration into your process control system, with full support provided throughout setup. Operators gain analyzed process insights, enabling them to make informed decisions promptly based on real-time data. Understanding the composition of slag and broader process conditions inside the furnace offers significant potential benefits, as each batch is unique. Over time, cumulative process data allows process engineers to conduct thorough analyses and implement improvements using offline data from each unique steel batch.

Benefits of ArcSpecLF

Slag analysis

Economic

  • Enhances process efficiency by reducing downtime, which increases overall production throughput
  • Minimizes over-alloying and excessive use of additives, leading to cost savings
  • Monitor the slag composition e.g. MgO and/or CaO saturation to avoid refractory damage

Technical

  • Real-time monitoring allows operators to make timely adjustments to slag composition
  • Monitoring the process of desulphurization
  • Continuous monitoring of slag composition minimizes the risk of variations in the final product’s quality
  • Monitor the slag compostion e.g. MgO and/or CaO saturation to ensure optimal foaming conditions

Temperature control

Economic

  • Increase energy efficiency, through energy savings, which leads to lower CO2 emissions
  • Minimizes process downtime, increasing production efficiency
  • Avoid excessive heat wear on equipment, prolonging the life of critical components such as refractory linings and electrodes.

Technical

  • Consistent and accurate temperature control throughout the ladle furnace process, ensuring optimal alloying and tapping conditions
  • Facilitates degassing and decarburization
  • Ensures steel composition and quality consistency
  • Maintains furnace readiness
