ArcSpec Fully Commissioned in South Korea

Sep 16, 2026

Luxmet has successfully commissioned its real-time dynamic process control technology ArcSpec for Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) applications first time in South Korea. The technology is based on Luxmet’s patented Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) technology and provides continuous real-time information to support process monitoring and control in demanding high-temperature industrial environments.

Luxmet is the global leader in Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) based real-time on-line process monitoring and control solutions for the steel and metal industry.

Kowatech is the trusted partner representing Luxmet products in the South Korean market.

Continuous real-time process data, combined with data-driven process optimization, can support shorter tap-to-tap times, improved energy efficiency and enhanced process stability at all Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operations.

Luxmet is also advancing its technology portfolio for secondary metallurgy and other high-temperature metal-processing applications. Its OES-based technology can provide continuous real-time information on process temperature and key slag components, including CaO, SiO, AlO, and MgO, during the refining process at ladle furnace.

“The successful commissioning of our ArcSpec technology demonstrates the value of real-time optical process monitoring in modern steelmaking. We continue to develop our technology portfolio to provide real-time process information and improved process control for steel and other metal-processing applications,” says Mikko Jokinen, CTO of Luxmet.

“Luxmet technology has fulfilled its promises. There are active discussions with multiple actors in the Korean steel industry. We are happy to continue delivering the Luxmet products and their benefits to our clients,” says Kevin Chung of Kowatech, the Korean representative of Luxmet.

Luxmet’s technology utilizes Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) for continuous process monitoring and control. The system distinguishes different spectral signals inside the furnace, including light intensity, thermal radiation and atomic emissions. Measurements are performed continuously through robust, self-cleaning sensors mounted on the furnace roof.

The measurements can be processed at a safe distance from the furnace and provided in real time to process control systems and operators.
