Luxmet is moving from technology development and industrial validation into a new phase of international growth. The Board of Directors of Luxmet Oy has appointed Hannu Hautala as CEO of the company, effective 1 September 2026, to lead this next phase of growth. Most recently, Hautala led Keliber Oy’s nearly EUR 800 million lithium project in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland.
Luxmet has developed a patented optical emission spectroscopy solution for real-time process measurement and optimisation in the steel and metals industries. The technology has been used and validated in customers’ production environments. Luxmet’s customer and development references include Outokumpu, SSAB, Ovako, Georgsmarienhütte, Celsa and Feralpi. The company has customers across Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Hautala will be responsible for driving Luxmet’s international sales growth and strengthening the company’s global partner network.
“Luxmet has developed patented technology that has been validated at more than ten industrial customer sites. The focus is now shifting to international sales growth. Hannu has extensive experience in leading international industrial businesses, deep knowledge of the steel industry, an extensive international network and a solid understanding of Luxmet’s technology. This gives him an excellent foundation for leading Luxmet’s next phase of international growth,” says Mikko Nissinen, Chairman of the Board of Luxmet.
“I am excited to lead Luxmet into its next phase. After a long international career in industry, I am highly motivated to help steel companies improve productivity and reduce CO₂ emissions. I know Luxmet’s technology and the market well. I see strong potential in Luxmet, and our key priority now is to drive global sales growth,” Hautala says.
Hautala already knows Luxmet well from his time on the Board and is familiar with its technology, customers and market. He will step down from the Board when he becomes CEO.
Luxmet’s current CEO, founder and largest shareholder, Mikko Jokinen, is preparing for retirement. He initiated the succession process well in advance to ensure an orderly transition. From 1 September, Jokinen will continue as Chief Technology Officer during the transition period, ensuring continuity in Luxmet’s technology and know-how and supporting an orderly handover of responsibilities as Hautala assumes responsibility for the company’s operations.
