Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) plays a significant role in Hydrogen Plasma Smelting Reduction (HPSR), as a powerful tool for process control. Our ArcSpec based on OES technology will be implemented in the HPSR furnace to characterize the plasma, evaluate the temperature of the molten bath, and assess the slag composition and reduction degree.
Luxmet will participate in retrofitting the existing electric arc furnace into a hydrogen plasma reactor. Our key contribution lies in installing the ArcSpec equipment in the EAF at Swerim, a leading industrial research institute, facilities in Luleå, Sweden. This critical step involves mechanical and electrical modifications to repurpose the DC arc furnace into a hydrogen plasma reactor. Luxmet’s role underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable steel production methodologies, marking a significant milestone in the transition towards low carbon-dioxide emission technologies.
As a pioneer in high-temperature metallurgical process control technology, Luxmet is dedicated to driving positive change in the steel industry, offering innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
