Supporting steel industries in their shift towards green steel is one of our priorities. This commitment drives us to continually develop our products to align with new technologies, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the industry.
Luxmet contributes to the EU-funded project (H2PlasmaRed), which seeks to transform the steel industry with its Hydrogen plasma technology. By developing hydrogen plasma smelting reduction (HPSR) technology, H2PlasmaRed aims to reduce CO2 emissions and promote a circular economy within the steel sector across Europe. This initiative aligns with Luxmet’s vision of driving innovation and sustainability in steel production.
The H2PlasmaRed’s mission is to develop a near CO2-free reduction process supporting the goals of the Paris Agreement to reduce the carbon intensity of steel production. By scaling up HPSR technology from pilot-scale to industrial practice, the project aims to establish a pathway for green steel production methods. H2PlasmaRed also aims to optimize the HPSR process for enhanced reduction, resource utilization, and energy efficiency. The next post will explain Luxmet’s role in the project in more detail.
