Electric arc furnace research has intensified in Finland due to increasing requirements of producing steel with lower CO2 emissions. In order to tackle the challenge of producing green steel, Luxmet is undertaking joint research project AMET with University of Oulu Process Metallurgy Group. University of Oulu is developing an electric arc furnace process model that can be combined to the process data provided by Luxmet systems. The resulting more accurate control models can be used to increase the efficiency of the EAF process. This will pave way for switching steel production from the blast furnace route to hydrogen steelmaking.
